Located to the north of Boca Tapanda in San Carlos, Maquenque Eco Lodge is a lush 60 hectare nature reserve that offers easy access to the recently created Maquenque National Wildlife Refuge. The lodge has been created with the purpose of maintaining\/conserving the region\u2019s natural habitat, while offering tourists world class service and comfortable accommodation options. Maqueneuq\u2019s unusual framework promises a memorable rainforest experience in a naturally privileged region. The low-key yet relaxing and comfort-inducing setting allows guests to commune with nature and enjoy its pristine beauty at their own pace through a bunch of organized tours and self-guided trails. Surrounded by abundant tropical ecological resources and the splendid San Carlos River, Masquenque Eco lodge is excellent for wildlife observation, birding and adrenaline soaring adventure activities. The eco lodge is also responsible for initiating several sustainable tourism policies for the protection of its bio-diverse surroundings.

Amenities and Activities <\/strong><\/p>\n

Maquenque\u2019s lush surroundings are a thriving nature\/adventure lover\u2019s paradise. Visitors can enjoy a plethora of activities ranging from taking a boat trip down the San Carlos River to horseback riding through the labyrinth rainforest paths of Costa Rica\u2019s lowlands. There are exciting night tours for witnessing the region\u2019s majestic wildlife along with guided bird watching trips. Visitors can also embark on an exploratory mission by making a boat trip to the Nicaraguan native village \u201cEl Castillo, where they can savor Rio San Juna\u2019s incredible countryside. Other activities include jungle safaris, canoeing down the lagoons and exploring Maquenque\u2019s beautifully landscaped gardens.<\/p>\n

Facilities at the lodge include an intimate open-air restaurant and bar, a long and curvy swimming pool(enclosed by numerous large plants dangling over the water), 8 kilometers of private reserve, a botanical garden, free guided walks, canoes for the lakes tour, shuttle service to and from the hotel and a green garden (where Maquenque claims to \u201cproduce 70% of whatever the Manequenque Eco Lodge is using\u201d). The lodge is part of a popular bird migration area, which allows visitors to catch regular glimpses of an assortment of rare bird species flying through the region.<\/p>\n

Accommodations<\/strong><\/p>\n

Accommodation at the Maquenque Eco Lodge comprises 14 simple and small yet well furnished and comfortable bungalows (most of which are prettily scattered around the boundary of a huge pond). The accommodations are secluded, cozy and sport an innately rustic charm complete with indigenous wood structures, vibrant walls and elegant wooden furniture. Each room is equipped with a ceiling fan, private hot water bathroom, a hammock and a tiny deck (to enjoy spectacular vistas of lodge\u2019s surroundings). Nine bungalows either feature a queen size bed or a couple of twin size beds, while five bungalows are equipped with a king sized bed. The bungalows are a perfect blend of unpretentious elegance and an innate countryside charm.<\/p>\n

Rates<\/strong><\/p>\n

The high season rates for a room are $101 USD, $ 125 USD and $ 149 USD per night on a single, double and triple occupancy. In addition to this there are several packages such as the 3 days 2 nights Northern Eco Adventure Tour (which includes all meals, lodging, guide services, night rainforest tour, birding tour, horseback riding tour and canoeing tour on San Carlos) and the 4 days 3 nights Total Jungle Experience tour (which includes among other things a night tour and guided day tour of the rainforest). Other popular packages include the 3 days 2 nights Rivers and Lagoons package and the 3 days 2 nights Costa Rica and Nicaragua Adventure package. All reservations include a full breakfast, a guided morning walk through the rainforest, unlimited free self-guided trails, access to the botanical garden and green garden and canoeing on the lagoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
