The lodge has been created with the purpose of maintaining/conserving the region’s natural habitat, while offering tourists world class service and comfortable accommodation options. Amenities and Activities Maquenque’s lush surroundings are a thriving nature/adventure lover’s paradise. Visitors can enjoy a plethora of activities ranging from taking a boat trip down the San Carlos River to horseback riding through the labyrinth rainforest paths of Costa Rica’s lowlands. Facilities at the lodge include an intimate open-air restaurant and bar, a long and curvy swimming pool(enclosed by numerous large plants dangling over the water), 8 kilometers of private reserve, a botanical garden, free guided walks, canoes for the lakes tour, shuttle service to and from the hotel and a green garden (where Maquenque claims to “produce 70% of whatever the Manequenque Eco Lodge is using”). The lodge is part of a popular bird migration area, which allows visitors to catch regular glimpses of an assortment of rare bird species flying through the region. Accommodations Accommodation at the Maquenque Eco Lodge comprises 14 simple and small yet well furnished and comfortable bungalows (most of which are prettily scattered around the boundary of a huge pond). The accommodations are secluded, cozy and sport an innately rustic charm complete with indigenous wood structures, vibrant walls and elegant wooden furniture. Each room is equipped with a ceiling fan, private hot water bathroom, a hammock and a tiny deck (to enjoy spectacular vistas of lodge’s surroundings). Nine bungalows either feature a queen size bed or a couple of twin size beds, while five bungalows are equipped with a king sized bed. The bungalows are a perfect blend of unpretentious elegance and an innate countryside charm.
