Introduction

Monteverde Lodge and Gardens is one of the oldest specialty eco-lodges in the region that has been consistently enhancing its amenities and service standards to include expert guides, tastefully done-up rooms and immaculately-manicured gardens. The lodge is owned by Costa Rica Expeditions, whose extensive experience in the tourism sector reflects in the high hospitality standards of the lodge. Located at a mere 15 minutes from the breathtaking Moneteverde cloudforest, Monteverde Lodge provides a near perfect backdrop for activities such as hiking, wildlife spotting, horseback riding and bird watching. Guests can do everything from relaxing in their wilderness lodge (featuring spectacular forest vistas) to soaking in an enormous 15-person Jacuzzi, housed inside a covered atrium.

Amenities and Activities

Guests can enjoy a plethora of nature and adventure based activities at the Monteverde Lodge including guided daytime and nighttime hikes with experienced guides (at the Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve), horseback riding tours (covering riders of all levels) and early morning bird watching tours. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve guided excursion is priced at $ 49 USD per person for a group of no more than 9 people for a duration of 4 hours (includes services of an expert naturalist, round trip transportation and park entrance fee). In addition to this, visitors can also explore the Butterfly Garden, Bat Jungle and Coffee Plantations located nearby. Guests also enjoy walking around the beautiful botanical gardens to search for glimpses of wildlife or dining al freco (in a wild backdrop no less) at the lodge’s in-house El Jardin Restaurant & Bar. Exhaustion caused by hiking tours can be suitably combated by relaxing at the huge atrium-enclosed Jacuzzi. In-house amenities also include an amphitheatre, a computer room featuring three computers (free wireless internet throughout the lodge) and a reading room.

Accommodation at the Monteverde Lodge is available in the form of Forest View Balcony Rooms and Forest View Standard Rooms. Located on the second level, the lodge’s famed Forest View Balcony Rooms feature two double beds, a glass enclosed shower, solar heated water, ceiling fan and private balcony (offering striking views of the surrounding forest).

The ground level Forest View Standard Rooms are equipped with a couple of double beds along with a glass enclosed shower, solar heater, ceiling fan and corner window.

All rooms are elegantly decorated to combine comfort, an element of back-to-nature ruggedness and a quaint colonial style appeal. The well-appointed bathrooms, wood panel adorned walls and cane furniture add to the ‘luxury marries nature’ aura.

Rates

The peak season rates for a Forest balcony room are $ 238 USD/ a night per room for single and double occupancy. For a balcony room with breakfast, lunch and dinner, the rate per person is $ 188 USD per person/per night on a double occupancy arrangement.

The Forest View Standard Rooms are priced at $178 USD per room for single and double occupancy during peak season. A standard room with breakfast, lunch and dinner is available at $ 158 USD person/per night on a double occupancy arrangement.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner can also be availed at $ 16 USD, $ 28 USD and $ 32 USD respectively, with a garden dinner coming at an extra price of $ 25 USD.
