Located just on the outskirts of Dos Brazos town, Bosque Del Rio Tigre is a 31 acre primary and secondary rainforest surrounded private wildlife reserve that includes innumerable trails, creeks and picturesque lagoons. The lush, homey and secluded retreat features abundant natural wonders from a breathtaking waterfall to a spectacular assortment of orchids. Touted to be “one of the best spots for bird-watching”; the lodge is home to several species of wilderness such as howler monkeys, dart frogs, pizotes, tayras and a large variety of birds. This charming and intimate hideaway is generally inhabited by families and small groups, and can accommodate up trato ten guests at a time.

Activities and Excursions

A stay at the Bosque Del Rio Tigre allows guests/nature enthusiasts the opportunity of exploring the biodiversity and uncontrived wilderness of Osa Peninsula. Excursions and guided tours are carried out throughout the Reserva Forestal Golfo Dulce, Paruq Nacional Corcovado and the lodge’s private reserve along with other ecological attractions in Peninsula de Osa. Guests can take the less travelled adventure trails or experience the beauty of the lush rainforest. In addition to this, there are other nature-centric activities such as hiking, bird-watching, nature walks, gold panning, swimming and mangrove kayaking. Trips to the botanical garden, tree climbing sessions, waterfall rappelling, canopy tours and dolphin watching tours can also be organized by the lodge.

Bosuqe Del Rio Tigre offers well rounded Rainforest Educational Packages comprising of everything from enjoyable local hikes to accommodations at the riverside lodge to meals and access to a reference library. The 4 walks/ a day included in the package are intended to introduce guests to the stunning biodiversity of Peninsula de Osa that manifests itself in the form of rare bird species, medicinal plants, general flora and other rainforest ecological wonders. Their Tigre Birding and Osa Birding packages (ranging from $549 USD TO $ 995 USD during peak seasons) are also popular with nature enthusiasts.

Service, Accommodation and Pricing

Since Bosque Del Rio Tigre can accommodate only ten people at a time, their service is highly intimate, attentive, customized and homey. The low-key, small-scale character of this lodge makes it a refreshing change from many overtly pretentious, overpriced and self-proclaimed eco-resorts around the region. They offer quality food, comfortable accommodation, a posse of courteous staff and a clean ambiance.

A culmination of rustic appeal, convenience and luxury, the accommodation comprises a two-storied lodge (encircled by a lush tropical forest) that features 4 private corner rooms, shared baths, community lounging areas and dining spaces. The top story rooms feature expansive windows to facilitate effortless bird watching and better circulation of air. Bosque Del Rio Tigre also offers a miniature cabin with a private bath.

The rates for per night stay for a double and single occupancy arrangement during high season are $ 138.94 USD and $ 157.52 USD (without tax) respectively. For unlimited guiding (minimum 2 nights, 2 guests), the rate for double occupancy during high season is $202.17 (without tax). All rates include three meals, unlimited fresh juice, dinner wine and evening snacks.

Guiding packages range from the 3 Night Adventurer (comprising 3 nights with a 5-6 hour hike through the rainforest including the primary, secondary and riparian forest sections) priced at $ 496 USD during high season to the 5 Night Osa Birder (includes 14 hours local guiding sessions, 3 morning hikes of about 3 hours each to varied locations and a couple of late afternoon walks along with a 6 hour road birding trip to Rincon) priced at $995 USD during high season.
